About this deal

I bought this book primarily because I am a fan of the illustrator Karl James Mountford's beautiful, detailed illustrations. When the visitors have all gone home from The Curious Museum and are fast asleep in their beds it its time for the animals to enjoy themselves and when the clock strikes midnight the museum comes to life…get ready for the magic hour. The illustrations and writing styles made sure to keep the readers entertained the whole way through. Our inspiration comes from our very own little ones, Isla and Milo, who are our chief toy testers and the driving force behind everything we do. The two are led on a crazy madcap chase through The Curious Museum, where they meet many interesting creatures, all come alive in this magical hour, and learn something about them.

The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth

Packed with incredibly detailed, vibrant illustrations and multiple flaps to lift on each double page, this magical, race-against-time adventure can be enjoyed on two levels. With stunning illustrations from Karl James Mountford, this brilliantly interactive book brings museums to life! This book is highly engaging as it's interactive fact flaps will keep children hooked finding information around the book. Kids curiosity can explore fun facts found in a museum with further information or just enjoy the story with goofy side commentary. Each page offers a different section of the museum and facts that link to the area, for example when they enter the underwater world there are lots of flaps under the bright illustrations which give lots of information about different sea creatures. After a lot of dithering, cups of tea, and creative support from the fab people in her life she finally managed to do both. The only thing was there was quite a lot of information under the flaps and although Mr 3 loved opening the flaps he was not so interested in hearing all the detail underneath, and just wanted to find all the flaps quickly.

This one had me itching to lead a creative writing class at a local museum or gallery, encouraging young authors to imagine what might happen in the museum after dark! This interesting, fun and informative non-fiction book introduces a range of creatures which existed before, during and after the reign of the dinosaurs - including woolly mammoths, pterosaurs and Neanderthals. Timothy, the mammoth in question, is looking for his baby brother Teddy, and soon Oscar has joined him on the hunt. However, I did find it just a smidgeon disorienting, since it is VERY heavy on the historical tidbits and functions as an almost info-dump on each page. Karl now lives in beautiful Carmarthen, in Wales, and works as an illustrator making picture books and screen prints, always leaving a paper trail of sketches and drawings wherever he goes. With detailed and quirky illustrations, richly patterned and packed with famous and sometimes surprising cameos.

The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth - Goodreads

They are filled with colour, no space is left unfilled and there are so many different things to see and admire. Timothy recruits Oscar to help him find his baby brother before the clock strikes one and the ‘magic hour’ is over. As Teddy leads Timothy and Oscar on a riotous chase through the museum the reader is taken on an incredible journey through an underwater world, the library, the flight floor, the dinosaur floor, and endangered and extinct animals. This is a picture book that is accessible to all age groups and includes lots of interesting bits of knowledge. This selection of picture books is not about getting a new sibling, but about existing brothers and sisters that share in all the fun at home and when out and about. It reads a bit more like a textbook with a narrative thinly woven in, rather than the other way around. That's why we take great care in curating a selection of products we know will be loved by parents and children alike. Which exhibits would you hide behind if you were playing Catch-Me in the vaults of a place packed with amazing objects and wonderful finds?

The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth - Scramble Storytime The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth - Scramble Storytime

Author Guy Bass introduces SCRAP, about one robot who tried to protect the humans on his planet against an army of robots.

Follow Oscar through a magical museum of curious creatures to find the mammoth before the clock strikes one! I particularly loved the lift-the-flap features that had lots of facts on them as they made the reading experience so much more engaging. This book celebrates their incredible worth and will encourage children to visit them with their families – although they might keep a close eye on the animals in case they come to life!
