About this deal

Updating the TG-5, the TG-6’s core specification includes a relatively modest-sounding 12MP resolution via its small, backlit 1/2. The Olympus Tough TG-6 builds on the success of the TG-5, with a handful of small improvements to that camera's already capable spec sheet. Year after year, model after model, Olympus has bested all other competition with its flagship waterproof TG series. Color accuracy is critical for modern creative work, but many creatives have no idea what a colorimeter is actually doing when you put it on your display. Two external flash units for underwater photography (UFL-3) are compatible for multi-unit flash photography in a compact system.

In terms of tough credentials, the TG-6 is waterproof down to 15 metres, dustproof, shockproof up to a height of 2. Recently superseded by the XP140, the XP130 is far easier on the wallet than the TG-6, although its spec sheet isn't quite as strong. With people increasingly happy to rely on their smartphone for everyday snaps these days, if you see a point-and-shoot compact at all it’s likely to be one of two things: an instant camera that outputs Polaroid-style prints, or, as with the new Olympus TG-6, a toughened camera that you’d dare to use in scenarios where you wouldn’t otherwise risk your handset. The renowned Olympus field sensor system makes it possible to record log data such as location, altitude/depth as well as air/water temperature while capturing still images or movies.

The camera also boasts image stabilization for both stills and movies, as well as a GPS and Olympus' field sensor system that can record information such as location, altitude / depth and air / water temperature for your photos and videos. You’ll have to get used to keeping your ISO at 1600 or lower (you’ll need a steady hand for the slow shutter speed that results). The only major advance from previous Tough model is arguably the ability to shoot video at up to 4K resolution at 30fps, although there are also new underwater modes (three choices, rather than just one), macro photo options (allowing captures as close as 1cm), plus an improved LCD screen resolution at 1. It can shoot at 120fps in Full HD, and if you drop the resolution to 720p or lower, you can capture video at a super-slow 480fps, which is fantastic for the kind of extreme sports shooting this camera is already well-equipped for. These new changes sit on top of a capable core that sees a 12MP sensor working with a lens equivalent to 25-100mm, with a maximum aperture of f/2-4.

It opens up to f/2 at the widest angle, a plus for snapping shots in dim light, but does drop in brightness to f/4. Capture your adventures in unbelievably lifelike resolution with spectacular detail and vibrant color. The reason why so many people are excited about the Olympus Tough TG-6 is the impressive list of technical specs. Subjects that the naked eye can't see can now be captured in breathtaking detail, thanks to the maximum 7x image magnification. as real users, posing a threat to a site’s security, so the site sometimes runs random security checks.

Highlights include new underwater modes, more versatile macro photo options as well as a better monitor with improved resolution.

drop-proofing, but image quality and battery life go some way to prove the adage about getting what you pay for. Peak Design's newest Camera Cubes allow you to turn any pack or bag into a camera-carrying accessory. Family moments are precious and sometimes you want to capture that time spent with loved ones or friends in better quality than your phone can manage. You can also shoot Full HD 120 fps High Speed movies with options for shooting at 240 fps for HD and 480 fps for SD. It’s not always immediately obvious where to find certain settings, but if you persevere with learning it, you get to know its odd quirks. Not a whole lot has changed from the TG-5 to the new model, with it being hard to tell the difference too obviously when placing them side by side.

Fujifilm's newest camera aims to bring modern AF, improved sensor stabilization and video recording technology into the medium format realm. Almost all of the buttons are found on the right hand side of the Olympus TG-6, which makes it easy to change settings when using the camera one-handed. The Tough TG-6 was designed to be a handy, reliable partner that is ready for the rougher parts of photographic life: It is waterproof1 to a depth of 15m, dustproof1, shockproof1 to 2. The Olympus Tough TG-6 boasts an attractive mix of sporty and industrial design courtesy of visible faceplate screws, which should appeal to photographers and action junkies wanting the best of both those worlds. It is captivating to suddenly see the world through a magnifying glass or microscope – to see tiny details blown up big. The TG-6 is your ideal partner for capturing every moment of your journey, regardless of the conditions. After using the Olympus Tough TG-6 for about a month, I’ve figured out my favorite combination of settings for everyday use; P mode. Indeed, the most ringing endorsement comes from an executive we spoke to at a rival camera brand;despite the exec's company producing an all-weather compact of its own, they bought the new Tough instead because it was so much better!
