And that’s before we get to Glenn Branson, Roy Grace and his partner, the heavily pregnant Cleo, who is about to have their child. All the Roy Grace novels are set in Brighton and its surroundings, but this book is particularly exciting for us as it is mostly set in the Royal Pavilion. Even worse, bad jokes ensue as the gallows humour of those whose job it is to clean up horrific crime scenes gains traction.

The villain, Smallbone, is introduced and we find he is plotting to burglarize the hotel suite of Gaia, the celebrity Grace is protecting, but nothing ever comes of it. Having misplaced my reading mojo I decided to read Book 8 in the Roy Grace series as having read and loved the first 7 I was quite confident my mojo would be reignited. The Chalke History Festival announces a new name, new look, and tons for history buffs to get their teeth into! I think the books tend to be over 100,000 words, so I can't finish them in one sitting, but this one I finished over three days. It seems to add nothing to the story and I didn't get the feeling it was a foreshadowing of things to come in another book. The little hooks and mini cliffhangers before the next chapter kept me turning the pages long after I should have gone to sleep.

When an ashen faced David Beevers (sorry, David Barry) comes to the scene of carnage he exclaims, ‘This was King George’s worst nightmare.A week after the night she chases but fails to catch a mysterious trespasser outside her town house, some unknown party texts Tempe four images of a corpse that looks as if it’s been chewed by wild hogs, because it has been. Kevin Spinella, chief crime reporter for the Brighton Argus, demands details on the latest threats to Gaia even though he’s on his honeymoon in the Maldives. One might say James gives one a lot to consider and sometimes you may feel like you need a scorecard to keep track of all the players. The Grace thrillers have become something of an annual treat since the first, Dead Simple, was published in 2005.

I love the fact that with every book we get to know the characters a little better and love them or dislike them (Ari) more. But then James really knows his local officers because he regularly shadows the force to ensure his procedural detail is spot on. A Serving of Crime with a Difference - You May Just Discover Something Unique, Different, or Unusual in These 20 Crime Novels. I was also extremely glad to see that Glenn had cracked the not-so-obvious-but-kind-of-obvious romance between two members of Roy's team, whilst Roy was able to finally work out how the Argus reported managed to know everything moments after Roy had found things himself.I fear that the series may get tedious but there certainly doesn’t seem to be any sign of that (apart from the Sandy part). under his belt, he has achieved global book sales of over 20 million copies to date and has been translated into 37 languages. Maybe this is because, with his ”Paul Newman eyes”, good looks, fit body and attractive partner, he’s neither complicated nor miserable enough to really care about, although he does have a ”tragic” event in his past. For Peter James fans, it’s not this summer’s London Olympics or the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee they’ve been eagerly anticipating all year. The police are on the scene within minutes, but Logan has vanished, leaving behind her neatly parked car and mobile phone.
