These include nitrogen for leafy growth, phosphates for root development, potash for flowering and fruiting and trace elements for colour and flavour. Loam used in compost is usually made of a mix of sand, silt, and clay, and is sterilised to kill weed seeds, pests, and diseases. Sow the seeds carefully, according to the packet instructions, cover with more SylvaGrow John Innes Seed Compost or vermiculite to the depth directed. John Innes no2 contains double the amount of nutrients found in John Innes No 1 to suit established plants. Root cuttings can be placed in a cold frame or sheltered spot out of direct sunlight and can benefit from a thin layer of grit on the growing medium surface.

Organic matter is also contained within the loam; this provides slow release exchange sites for nutrition, promoting slow release of fertiliser to the plant. b>Peat - Sphagnum Moss Peat contained within John Innes compost increases porosity, providing improved aeration and water-retaining capacity. John Innes formulations can maximise your growing opportunity producing plants with particularly good root development. John Innes No2 is used for potting on young plants and John Innes No3, which has the most nutrients, is best used for final potting up of plants. This compost has a carefully balanced nutrient content to suit most young plants and allow them to grow. This good absorption and release of water and nutrients is sometimes referred to as having a high level of “buffering”. Most potting compost or media offered is soil-less and either based entirely on peat, has some peat in its formulation or is peat-free.

John Innes composts are made by a number of different compost brands, and are ideal for long-term plant growth in pots and containers.NMSB is an independent, local producer and supplier of aggregates and concrete, sporting and horticultural sands, soils and composts, merchanting supplies, and waste management services. Stem cuttings need to be in a moist environment out of direct sunlight until they have rooted so either place in a cold frame, a covered propagator or cover with polythene, using supports to prevent the polythene from touching the cuttings. All of the John Innes products, simply offer a different level of nutrients to boost initial growth all the way until the final result.

The four formulae were designed to cater for the different nutritional needs of plants ranging from seed sowing through to final containers.Alternatively, at the time of pricking out, incorporate slow-release fertilizer granules according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Remove the cover as soon as the seeds have germinated and ensure that the SylvaGrow John Innes Seed Compost is kept evenly moist at all times.
