Royal Blue: Glucose syrup, sugar, humectant (Glycerol (E 422)), water, colours (Brilliant Blue (E 133), Carmoisine (E 122*)), starch, acidity regulators (Citric Acid (E 330), Sodium Citrates (E 331)), thickener (Agar (E 406)), preservative (Potassium Sorbate (E 202)). I also try to avoid these in things for children as they have been linked the adverse behavioural effects. Another brand that I love that comes in a tube (and again so easy to use because of no messy spoons) is colour splash! Icing colors are highly concentrated, which gives frosting rich coloring without disturbing consistency. Whether it's a batch of cupcakes for the school bake sale, or a colourful birthday cake, Wilton's range of products make sure your bakes stand out for all the right reasons.

Icing paste colourings can be used by adding a tiny amount to sugarpaste, marzipan, royal icing or buttercream (and by "tiny" we mean literally dipping the end of cocktail stick in the paste as this allows you to build up to the required shade), or diluting with a little water or Rejuvenator Fluid / Spirit to create a liquid colouring for painting on to icing, or for airbrushing. Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections—they may also appear in recommendations and other places.Gel food colouring pastes are suitable for colouring any type of icings such as sugar paste, royal icing, fondant, buttercream or even cake mixes, and due to their thicker consistency, food colouring pastes and gels do not alter the viscosity of cake batter and icing when used. Since 1929, the Wilton Team of bakers has been inspiring the joy of creativity in everyone, everywhere, every day. You will be shocked at the intensity of these Gels, it will take very small amounts to achieve the most gorgeous and vibrant tones! Wherever an anomaly like this appears, we will show the colouring as being a "competition colouring". We recommend adding tiny drops gradually, using the end of a cocktail stick to build up your desired shade.

Colour wise it took far more than a drop or a dipped toothpick's worth to colour - for the red we had to pour in half the pot before we could get a solid colour that was not a pale pink (and the amount of buttercream being coloured was 100g, not a huge amount to colour). To put into perspective, every single Gel Color we make has an entire jar of Master Elite Food Color in it! Gel food colors are the best choice for royal icing, frosting, in cake and cookie mixes, macarons, and egg dying.

In addition, latest EU regulations include a provision that foods containing the six food colours E110, E104, E122, E129, E102 and E124 must be labelled not only with the relevant E number but also with the words "may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in some children".
