Description

We believe that all the wines in our range are excellent examples of their style, and offer exceptional value for money.

However they still allow for grapes to be trodden by foot and retain some original stone lagares as well. The old vines are very low-yielding, producing on average less than 1Kg of grapes each, giving intense and concentrated musts which are ideal for classic Vintage Port. Furthermore, emptying the traditional lagar takes a long time; in the meantime the fermentation process is accelerating away. The exceptionally aromatic nose has aromas of violets and jammy red fruits such as cherries and redcurrants. unless we get written confirmation from you that this is acceptable and that you will take full responsibilty if the parcel goes missing. Quinta do Bomfim is situated in the heart of the Douro winegrowing region, just east of Pinhão on the north bank of the river Douro. made some outstanding single quintas, the houses maybe overly swayed by those 2016s into not declaring but the wines are very good in their own right. During these many years of careful attention and aging, the dark, purple and vibrant young Port mellows and ages into the complex but delicate aged Tawny Ports, gaining a classic amber tawny hue which gives them their name.

The fruit from Bomfim and Senhora da Ribeira form the backbone of their impressive vintage ports and, outside of vintage years, they are also the source of very good value Single Quinta vintage Ports. The current generation’s great grandfather, Andrew James Symington, took ownership of the Quinta in 1912 when he became a shareholder in Dow's, which had originally acquired the property in 1890. The old vines add further to the intensity of the wine as they make up a very large percentage of the vineyard. A small proportion of Douro aged tawny Ports are normally a valuable addition to the final blend, but in excess, they will unbalance a great Tawny Port. Colours of the musts in the fermentation tanks are always purple-black due to the very high skin to juice ratio.Dow’s ages some of its best Ports for many years in seasoned oak casks in its ancient cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia.
