Description

It was just as funny and relatable as the first one and was great to catch up with how nell and her life was progressing since the first instalment and was like having a catch up with an old friend. Together they begin to help each other heal their aching hearts, cope with the loss of the lives they had planned, and push each other into new adventures and unexpected joys. We learn about Kate’s possibly stalling career and Leo’s plan to apply to acting schools against his mother’s wishes.

Viena iš tų knygų, kur atrodo, skaitai ir visai mėgaujiesi, bet vis nepalieka jausmas, kad vien to negana. Yorkshire born and raised, Alex currently lives in South-West London with Mr California and their Bosnian rescue dog and when she's not spending time writing or travelling, she's spending far too much time on Instagram being reminded that she should be exercising regularly, drinking enough water, practising mindfulness and feeling blessed. When her business goes bust and her fiancé with it, Nell's happily-ever-after in California falls apart and she moves back to London to start over.I felt so many different emotions on each page like I laughed, cried (actual tears), felt sad, felt annoyed and related that I feel such a mess writing this review.

All her single friends are now married with children, sky-high rents force her to rent a room in a stranger’s house and in a world of perfect Instagram lives, she feels like a f--k up.I’ve been a fan of Alexandra Potter’s for years now but have absolutely loved her last few novels, including the first Confessions book and One Good Thing. And here she Is single, childless, renting a room from the crazy man who tries to leave NO carbon footprint by counting toilet paper squares etc. But when an old work contact lands her a job writing obituaries, Nell meets the fabulous Cricket, an eighty-something widow, who is also adjusting to her new life and they strike up an unlikely friendship. I'm at chapter 18 and would enjoy this story except that the volume goes from almost silent to too loud so I am constantly adjusting the volume up and down. One of the reasons I was initially wary about the title, when I came across it for the very first time, was simply this: I'm not a forty-something (I'm a thirty-something).

We revisited our favourite friendship duo Nell and Cricket, went in a trip to LA, saw a couple of weddings, babies and navigated ‘love in later life’. As an Asian woman who’s suffered from anxiety for several years, I’ve experienced all kinds of prejudice throughout my life. She’s just broken up with her fiance, moved back in with her parents, and hasn’t got a proper career to speak of. The story of Nell Stevens’ struggle through her imperfect, messy life doesn’t just make brilliant fiction, it’s turning into a cultural revolution!
