I suppose it didn't make sense at the time but looking back I think it would have been smart to keep Din Sync on pins 1-5 and then gone to an eight pin DIN and put MIDI on pins 6-8. Standards have now been drawn up by the midi association and TYPE A is the accepted standard, but devices made prior to this may be wired with TYPE B or even TYPE C in rare cases.

A large number of brands are now using 1/4″ TRS jacks for their MIDI and other companies are coming out with MIDI boxes to accommodate those. So long as you have two pieces of gear wired this way, you can connect them with a standard stereo minijack audio cable (that’s a single stereo minijack at both ends). The MX4 includes two MIDI adapters to connect with any equipment using the MIDI standard, 5-pin DIN connector, two TRS cables for MIDI patching and a standard power ribbon cable for connecting to your eurorack.Industry norms are approximately 70%, so that 15% saving is reducing your energy bill and softening your environmental impact on the planet. Soundtronics has adopted this standard for the M²Synth MIDI2CV converters avoiding the need for the large DIN connectors. It is also useful as a converter for connecting to other MIDI devices that use a different mapping of MIDI signals to the stereo minijacks. It just so happens that the Meeblip Triode uses Type A and therefore I was able to use the MIDI dongle that came with my SQ-1. This setup also allowed me to trigger notes on the NTS-1 simply by pressing the buttons on the SQ-1. As long as you’re comfortable soldering your own cables, you could solve that, but it means there isn’t an immediate de facto standard.

There are a couple of things that you may need to address to get this to work with your particular gear, however. The adapter has a male stereo minijack at one end, and a female 5 pin DIN MIDI connector on the other, and is 22 cm / 8. In other words Midi control from one small device to another with NO 5-pin Midi cables anywhere in the mix. For more information about the use of stereo minijacks for MIDI connections and compatibility with other products, please read the Mini TRS Audio Jacks for MIDI for Connections Compatibility Guide. In my simple understanding, if my Meris pedal is receiving on the tip it's also sending on the tip from the MIDI I/O box.New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging . It would also be nice to use a 5 pin and expand the MIDI spec to include a bit of DIN Sync/Sync24 on the two extra pins or something else useful that would help reduce jitter and accuracy, like maybe a clean clock on one pin and a song position pointer on the other pin? with Empress who (just like us) transmit MIDI on the ring and receive MIDI on the tip of the TRS cable. and yes there would be an adapter so you can use your MIDI gear with whatever replaces it, so stop resisting change! In the past few years, MIDI hardware products have become smaller and smaller, especially as many of them are meant to be used with mobile computing devices.
