I received a copy of this book to promote on Instagram, but I was interested in the book before the promotion and so I read it right away. How to Make Friends with the Dark is a gorgeously nuanced meditation on grief and family, and the incredible love that can pull you through the darkest of times. Sometimes things were said that didn't feel like something any living, breathing human being would say, instead of a book character. You spend a lot of time stuck in Tiger's mind and her thoughts, for the first part of the book, can be quite cyclical and repetitive and a bit like "get on with it.Tiger Tolliver is so vulnerable and real, you'll want to turn your porch light on and have the spare room ready for her.
