F (7-16°C) is at the low end of viable temps for finishing* so more time should definitely be allocated. How did you apply the danish oil, if using it outside it is suggested that you apply with a brush and flood the surface, not removing any excess. Bear in mind when working with previously sealed surfaces that if the Danish oil cannot penetrate the wood, it cannot protect it fully.

The biggest advantage of Danish Oil is that it is a natural product with the ideal viscosity to be absorbed by the pores of the timber and hence why it needs to be applied thinly. It shares everything you need to know about sanding before painting and includes a helpful cheat sheet so you know exactly which sandpaper to use for which project. Imagine going to a hairdresser; the barber would never immediately jump into cutting your hair, but they would first brush your hair and ensure it is not all tangled up. Leave the oil to penetrate for two to three minutes and wipe away any excess oil with a Lint Free Cloth. If the surface is a bit rough after the last coat of oil, you can also sand it with some super fine 0000 steel wool or a scourer.Earlier this year, I made some garden furniture in American white oak, and finished it with 3 or 4 coats of Danish oil. As well as providing many practical benefits, Danish Oil also enhances the appearance of the oak by bringing out the natural grain. On previously waxed or polished surfaces it is essential for an even finish and protection to strip back to bare wood with sandpaper, wire wool and white spirit as necessary.

If you take a close look at our solid wood surfaces, you will see that the wood is composed of fibre-like grains. It is that which will determine whether you end up hating your worktops or whether they will last for generations to come. I'm getting close to the finishing stage, and decided on 2 possibilities to try: Clear poly, and Danish oil. On the other hand, if you completely nailed the process and you are happy with your results, I would also be happy to hear back from you with some photos and comments! This finish should also be applied at room temperature and in a well ventilated area -it will smell. It’s suitable to apply on all types of wood and can be used on wooden furniture, tables and worktops. This article discusses applying Danish oil over oak wood, the process, its pros, and cons, and compares it with some other popular wood finishes used on oak. Our Danish Oil has been formulated to seal and finish any wooden surface as well as reoiling wood for maintenance. This method allows Danish Oil to be completely applied during the course of a single day, and the wood to be ready to use after 48 hours.
