A new 50th anniversary edition was released on November 28, 2018. It features Hendrix's originally intended cover, and is available as a box-set with either a Blu-ray disc and 3-CDs or a Blu-ray disc and 6-LPs. The Blu-ray includes a 5.1 surround mix by Eddie Kramer and a high resolution version of the album remaster. [69] The remastering was done by Bernie Grundman from the original master tapes. The box set also features early takes, demos and live concert from September 14, 1968, at the Hollywood Bowl plus a 1997 documentary "At Last...The Beginning: The Making of Electric Ladyland" featuring Chas Chandler, Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding and Eddie Kramer. Really, for an assortment of recordings which were never meant for commercial release, this disc sounds remarkably good and is an enjoyable end-to-end listen. Heatley 2009, pp.102–103: Recording began with Chandler and Kramer; McDermott, Kramer & Cox 2009, pp.95–97: Kellgren. American album certifications – Jimi Hendrix – Electric Ladyland". Recording Industry Association of America.

Heatley 2009, p.102: "All Along the Watchtower" was Hendrix's only US top 40 hit single;: Murray 1989, p.51 "All Along the Watchtower" was Hendrix's highest-selling single; Roberts 2005, p.232: peak UK chart position for Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower"; Whitburn 2010, p.294: peak US chart position for Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower". After posting the above,I have found this article which..explains, far better than my rather convoluted guesswork..a great deal, regarding the "myths" etc... Electric Ladyland was released in the US on October 16, 1968. [31] It was a "hit psychedelic album", Richie Unterberger later wrote, [32] and by mid-November, it had reached number one in the US, spending two weeks atop the pop charts. [33] The double LP was the Experience's most commercially successful release and Hendrix's only number-one album. [34] In the UK, it peaked at number six and charted for 12 weeks. Sepia images of Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell on inside right cover. On the Blu-ray Disc you also get a wonderful behind the scenes documentary on the making of Electric Ladyland. Its quite notable as there are interview segments with former manager Chas Chandler (ex-Animals bassist who helped put Jimi on the map who had quit during the production of this album), Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding (all three, RIP). This is an expanded version of the documentary originally produced as part of the Classic Albums TV series, newly edited with about 40 minutes of additional material. Noel Redding apparently contributed some of the 8mm film footage from his personal archives to make this documentary an essential insider view of what The Jimi Hendrix Experience was about at this time and place. Jimi Hendrix, Electric Ladyland by Karl Ferris". San Francisco Art Exchange . Retrieved February 10, 2014. Redding, who had formed his own band in mid-1968, Fat Mattress, found it increasingly difficult to fulfill his commitments with the Experience, so Hendrix played many of the bass parts. [9] The album's cover states that it was "produced and directed by Jimi Hendrix", which disturbed Chandler since he produced some of the songs. [11] The double LP was the only Experience album mixed entirely in stereo. [12] Electric Ladyland (Media notes). 920 060/061. France: Barclay Records. 1968. (Liner notes).
